Financial Assistance/Charity Care
As the largest healthcare system in the region, New Hanover Regional Medical Center takes its responsibility for caring for the community seriously. We have programs in place to support our mission to provide quality healthcare services to everyone who needs it, regardless of ability to pay.
NHRMC has a generous charity care program and caring professionals available to help guide you through the process of applying for assistance.
If you are concerned about your ability to pay for your medical care, please speak with our financial advisors in the Patient Access Department. They can help you review your health insurance coverage and work out a payment plan for your charges.
If you don't have health insurance, they can help guide you through the application process to get benefits from Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability, as well as other federal, state and community benefit programs.
If your hospital bill cannot be paid through insurance, personal assets, government or community assistance programs, then you may request an application for financial assistance or download the correct forms.
The application must be returned along with requested documentation either by email at PFS.CustomerService@nhrmc.org or by fax to 910-667-5371.
Once your application has been received, your account will be placed on hold for 30 days while it is reviewed.

Eligibility for Assistance
NHRMC uses required criteria to determine eligibility for financial assistance. One component is the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
In order to meet this requirement, your income and family size must be at or below 200% of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines.
