Your OB/GYN may refer you to a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine, or perinatologist, for a variety of reasons:
- You have a chronic health problem or medical condition, such as diabetes.
- You have a pregnancy-related condition, such as early labor or high blood pressure.
- You are carrying multiple babies.
- Your doctor has identified a concern about the baby, such as a growth problem.
You are in good hands with our maternal-fetal medicine specialists. These doctors are obstetricians who have extra training in high-risk pregnancies. They care for two patients - you and your baby - and work closely with your regular obstetrician or pregnancy care provider throughout your pregnancy.
