We assemble a team of experts in your cancer to care for you at New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) Zimmer Cancer Center. Often your main doctor is a medical oncologist who directs your care and involves other doctors and team members as needed.
Doctors from different cancer specialties meet each week to talk about a patient’s treatment plan. This gathering of specialists is called the Tumor Board and consists of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses, social workers, dietitians, and doctors from other specialties as needed.
An Expert Team with Care Centered Around You
All of the care we provide centers around you. You are the most important member of this team. We want to understand your needs, and we want to make sure you understand everything happening to you. It is important for your peace of mind to feel as if you have some control over what is happening with your treatment.
Besides oncologists, your team also may consist of nurse practitioners and oncology-certified nurses, therapists, physician assistants, exercise specialists, and other healthcare professionals. Meet your team:
