South East Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC) is a non-profit organization created in 1972 in an effort to bring medical care services into rural communities. Through a national led effort, North Carolina was one of the first states to establish Area Health Education Centers. These Area Health Education Centers provide the same quality of training, education and resources traditionally only available to healthcare professionals located near medical schools and major universities.  Today, ten centers serve the 100 counties of the state. While North Carolina's central office is in Chapel Hill, SEAHEC's office is in Wilmington.

Educational & Clinical Partners

SEAHEC is partnered with New Hanover Regional Medical Center and governed by the NHRMC board of directors. As one of the ten AHEC centers across the state, SEAHEC is also affiliated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. SEAHEC works with both of these organizations to conduct residency training programs, medical student education and student rotations.

The largest foundation-based healthcare not-for-profit in the Wilmington area, SEAHEC collaborates with many organizations to fulfill its mission to improve the health care in our region by providing training, education and resources to providers in New Hanover, Pender, Brunswick, Duplin and Columbus counties.
