Biography

Hello, my name is Carol Zeltzer. I was born and raised in the Sonora desert of Tucson, AZ, where the peppers are hot and the summers are hotter. I received a BS from the University of Arizona in Family Studies and Human Development. After graduating, I started my career in children’s behavioral health, working with a variety of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, including the foster care system. This was also where I met my wonderful husband, Sebastian. After a year of behavioral health we set off for adventure in Osaka, Japan, teaching English and gobbling up sushi by the ton. A tsunami later, my husband and I returned to the US to pursue our doctorates. We have three beautiful children, who keep us well-practiced in swashbuckling and ninja training. In between all of that, I really love scrapbooking, coaching gymnastics, and, if I ever find the time, I’d love to learn piano.

After decades in the dry desert, Wilmington was exactly what the doctor ordered! New Hanover’s focus on family and community resonated with me, and I wanted nothing more than to further that mission. Now that I’m here, I look forward to partnering with them to foster the wellness of the community and put a little Arizona spice into the program ;)
