Biography

Hi! My name is Jon Melo, and I had the privilege of living in multiple States, and another country, while growing up in a multicultural home. I consider the Dominican Republic to have been home for most of my formative years and am very thankful to have had the opportunity to spend much of my childhood and teenage years in another culture. I attended UNC Greensboro for my undergraduate degree and met my amazing wife, Kacie, while there. After college, I worked for a church for two years as a Campus Pastor/Community Outreach Pastor, and then moved to Lynchburg, Virginia to attend medical school at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Our son was born at the beginning of my 3rd year of medical school, and we have a daughter on the way! We love traveling, beach days, anything Disney, good coffee, and collecting coffee mugs from everywhere we travel.

For years we have dreamed of moving to the Wilmington area and are so excited to now live near the beach! Virtual residency interviews amidst the COVID Pandemic posed some interesting challenges to choosing a program, but once I interviewed with Coastal Family Medicine, I knew this was the place for me! The culture here is encouraging, supportive, collaborative, and truly feels like family! I am so excited to train with the awesome residents, faculty, and staff of Coastal Family Medicine!
