The Robert M. Fales Health Sciences Library hosted a group of six university librarians from Moldova on Monday afternoon in the James Walker conference room.
In addition to the delegation from Moldova, others in attendance included N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, U.S. Rep. David Rouzer, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, University of North Carolina Wilmington Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli and Cape Fear Community College President Jim Morton.
Secretary Marshall, who serves as the chairwoman of the North Carolina - Moldova Bilateral Partnership, recognized Donna Flake, the SEAHEC medical library director, for leading an ongoing medical library partnership between North Carolina and Moldova.
The reception was one event in a 10-day visit to the U.S. for the Moldovan librarians. Other stops include Cape Fear Community College and the University of North Carolina Wilmington, locally, as well as the N.C. State Capitol and the Library of Congress.
The goal for this visit is to enhance the NC-Moldova Library Partnerships and assist the Moldovan librarians with maintaining and expanding the partnerships. This program is intended to result in long lasting library partnerships which can benefit Moldova and North Carolina universities.
