WILMINGTON, NC – NHRMC Physician Group is pleased to welcome Amit K. Datta, MD, to the New Hanover Regional Hospitalists team. Dr. Datta is now caring for patients at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital.
Hospitalists are specialized physicians who focus on providing care for hospitalized patients. Hospitalists specialize in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine, and they focus on the patient's overall health, not just one aspect of their treatment. It is a hospitalist's mission to ensure each patient receives the highest level of care throughout their hospitalization and is efficiently transitioned back to the care of their primary care physician.
Dr. Datta earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica, West Indies. He completed his residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and has additional experience as a research scientist.
“New Hanover Regional Hospitalists are diverse, well-trained, passionate physicians,” says Justin Miller, MD, chair, New Hanover Regional Hospitalists – NHRMC Physician Group. “Each of us has chosen to pursue a career in hospital medicine because we want to lessen the suffering of patients with acute illness. The physicians in the group are from local areas and from abroad; they have training in both family medicine and internal medicine. This collective knowledge and experience makes us a strong and cohesive group focused on delivering the highest quality of care for every patient.”
