Hospitalization or serious illness can often be an emotionally trying time for families. The spiritual care department at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center offers patients and families spiritual and emotional support during these times.

Chaplain Services

Our chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for our patients and families. As members of the hospital's healing team, the Spiritual Care Department respect all traditions, faiths and beliefs of our patients and families. Spiritual Care Department staff are also available to discuss advanced directives with patients and loved ones. 

How to Contact Spiritual Care

Chaplains may be paged by staff at any time. If you or a loved one would like to receive Spiritual Care services, you may call the following numbers.

Chaplains from the community are available to visit patients and their families at Novant Health Pender Medical Center. Speak with the nursing staff or social worker and they will work with you to contact the clergy member of your choice.

Chapels & Services

For loved ones who would like a place for quiet prayer or meditation, quiet rooms are located throughout the facilities. Several chapels also are available for reflection.

NHNHRMC

chapelwinThe Emory N. Grubbs Chapel is on the first floor of the hospital near the visitor elevators and next to the Spiritual Care Department office. The interfaith chapel is open 24 hours a day and has a Bible, Qur'an and Islamic prayer rug available for use. In addition, visitors are welcome to leave a prayer request for a chaplain in the prayer box.

Novant Health New Hanover Rehabilitation Hospital

The Z. Franklin Pritchett Chapel is located on the first floor by the Rehabilitation Hospital lobby entrance.

Novant Health New Hanover Orthopedic Hospital

The Memorial Chapel is located on the first floor of the hospital by the Intensive Care Unit. Open 24 hours a day, the interfaith chapel has a Bible, Qur'an and Islamic prayer rug available for use.

Novant Health New Hanover Behavioral Health Hospital

Services are held on Sundays at 6 p.m. for patients at the Behavioral Health Hospital.

Novant Health Pender Medical Center

A chapel, located near the main visitor entrance of the hospital, is available for quiet prayer and contemplation 24 hours a day.

Other Use of the Chapels

Services are offered on special occasions for patients, visitors and staff. If you would like to use the chapel for other services or prayer groups, you must speak with a member of the Spiritual Care Department by calling 910.667.7014, or email [email protected].

Clergy Visitation

Some patients and families may feel more comfortable having their own spiritual leaders visit them in the hospital. We welcome all religious leaders to come see members of their congregation who are hospitalized and encourage clergy visitation.

Spiritual Care Fund

GiveFoundationThe Spiritual Care Fund allows those wishing to support the Spiritual Care Department to make a donation through the NHRMC Foundation. Your donation funds either the daily ministry of the chaplains or the Clinical Pastoral Education Endowment Fund, which provides ongoing education.
