Medication Disposal

Need a prescription filled?

The Outpatient Pharmacy can fill your prescriptions while you wait to go home. For questions, call 910.667.5181.

To help reduce the risk of misuse or accidental exposure to medications in our own community, New Hanover Regional Medical Center holds medication disposal events twice a year and is also one of New Hanover County's locations with permanent drop boxes for residents to safely dispose of their unwanted medications.

Having unnecessary medications in the home can be a hazard:

  • Old medications could be confused with current medications
  • Children could be poisoned by them
  • Pets could be harmed by ingesting dropped medications
  • Improper disposal of medications can have an adverse effect on the environment
