NHRMC supports organ donation and the gift of life it can provide. We work with Carolina Donor Services to help carry out the wishes of patients and their families who choose organ donation. We help protect the organs and prepare them for transport to transplant hospitals across the country.
Each time an organ is donated, we honor the generosity of the patient and family by raising the Donate Life flag in front of the hospital.
If you are considering becoming an organ donor, discuss your decision with your family. For more information, please visit Carolina Donor Services. Eyes and tissue can also be used to help others. Miracles in Sight works with NHRMC to recover corneas that can provide the gift of sight to others.
In 2015, NHRMC received the Gold Award from the Workplace Partnership for Life for promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation.
How to become an organ donor
In North Carolina, you can register in three ways:
1. Register at the DMV. A red heart will be placed on your driver’s license or ID card. This does not include tissue donation, nor does it include whole body donation.
2. Register at DonateLifeNC.org. At DonateLifeNC.org, you can choose which organs or tissues you want to donate.
3. Mail in a paper enrollment form. To obtain a form, call 1.800.200.2672.
