Catherine Sotir
Dr. Catherine Sotir, Predoctoral Director, has been honored with the 2020 Outstanding AHEC Faculty Award! This award is voted on by all 3rd- and 4th-year UNC-Chapel Hill medical students and is given to a faculty member of any specialty on any AHEC campus in North Carolina.

This is not Dr. Sotir’s first medical student teaching award. She received this same award in 2018, as well as the George T Wolff Award in 2016 for quality community-based medical education. These awards are particularly notable in that Wilmington is UNC’s newest campus, begun in 2016, and has only this year grown to 11 students per year.

Prior to joining the faculty at Coastal Family Medicine Dr. Sotir was faculty at the Brody School of Medicine, where she received the Excellence in Teaching Award by both the classes of 2002 and 2003.

In addition to medical student teaching awards, Dr. Sotir was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award by the Family Medicine Residents in Asheville in 1999 and by the Family Medicine Residents here in Wilmington in 2016. NHRMC and Coastal Family Medicine are honored by the work of this incredibly talented and caring teaching physician!
