One of NHRMC’s commitments is Exceptional Quality, Value and Personal Service. Rob Rostedt, VitaLink Clinical Coordinator, has shown his dedication to this commitment and has been honored as the NHRMC Employee of Excellence for September.
Since being promoted to clinical coordinator in 2017, Rob has embraced Leading our Community to Outstanding health though his leadership of the AirLink/VitaLink Quality Management and Safety Committees.
Rob’s patient centric chart review and clinical care monitoring tools have resulted in increases in the program’s first pass intubation success rates, proper management of patients with hemorrhagic shock, and improvements in the ongoing assessment and management of stroke patients transferred to NHRMC.
Over the past year, Rob has embraced the addition of more than 25 new quality metrics and is now responsible for a quality dashboard that includes nearly 200 monthly metrics!
Each month Rob dissects and shares this data with multiple time sensitive emergency service lines including: stroke, ACS, trauma, and sepsis.
Ensuring ongoing patient safety, Rob is responsible for the ongoing monitoring of The AirLink blood program as well as the AirLink/VitaLink College of American Pathologists Lab Accreditation. As a testament to his efforts, the last 4 quarterly CAP survey reports had no deficiencies.
In preparation for AirLink/VitaLink’s initial CAMTS Accreditation Survey, Rob oversaw the development of the department’s comprehensive safety management system. Rob introduced the AirLink/VitaLink annual safety award two years ago as well as “Great Catch” pins that are awarded to staff throughout the year. Both reward systems recognize team members who not only identify and report potential safety problems but those who go a step further by identifying and helping to initiate solutions.
Rob also works with our Cardiologists, identifying and monitoring Code Cardiac transfers from the region. Rob reviews the data from the transport teams, the Regional Transfer Center, and the EMR, to ensure accuracy. This allows providers to understand the effectiveness of identifying and expediting transfer of these most acute patients, and to make adjustments when necessary.
Rob has been instrumental in regional transport data tracking, analysis and dissemination throughout our system. His expertise and top-notch attention to detail has allowed for improved efficiencies and ultimately translate to improved patient care and satisfaction.
During the pandemic, our VitaLink teams sometimes needed to transfer patients who were suspected of having COVID-19. At the beginning of the outbreak, Rob developed a shared dashboard that tracks all PUI patients managed by AirLink/VitaLink teams. He updates this dashboard every morning and shares the information to ensure that all team members who engage with COVID patients are aware of the outcomes of patient COVID tests. This small yet vital additional step provides his program with an additional comfort of safety and serves as reminder that he truly has his team’s back.
For his ongoing commitment to quality and safety, Rob Rostedt, VitaLink Clinical Coordinator, is the NHRMC Employee of Excellence for September.
