For years, the SECU Family House has provided accommodations for patients and families of patients receiving care at NHRMC. For a nominal fee, they can stay at the SECU House to eliminate repeated travel, have a comfortable place to rest, and reduce extra expenses.

SECU Family House closed to the public as of late March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Family House employees were redistributed to help with essential operations at NHRMC. SECU Family House Community Relations and Outreach Coordinator Megan Youssefi applied for a grant from SECU Foundation to sustain operations. In August, the SECU Foundation distributed $3 million in grants, including $100,000 to the NHRMC Auxiliary, to be used for the SECU Family House in Wilmington.

"We want to sincerely thank the State Employee Credit Union members for their generosity," Youssefi said. "We were brought to tears by the announcement that we received this $100,000 gift, which will help sustain our operations until we reopen."

A date for reopening has not been set as safety is the paramount concern. "We look forward to the day when we can safely reopen our doors and provide comfort to those who need it," Youssefi said.
