NHRMC Board of Trustees Agrees with Partnership Advisory Group on Recommended Partnership Focus

May 11, 2020

New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees has voted to endorse a recommendation to focus on three potential partners for the health system.

The vote came at a special called meeting of the Board on May 11. The Board reviewed the recommendation from the Partnership Advisory Group, which voted unanimously on May 7 to focus further due diligence and site visits with Atrium Health, Duke Health and Novant Health.

None of the six responding organizations will be eliminated prior to further evaluation and public input, and the proposals will continue to be evaluated against the prospect of entering no additional partnerships and/or restructuring.

“After reviewing the proposals from the six organizations, members of the NHRMC Board of Trustees agreed the three recommended partners stand out for the depth of their commitment to advancing healthcare in this region,” said Jason Thompson, chairman of the NHRMC Board of Trustees. “As we look to the future, we need to consider who can best support NHRMC in providing high-quality, affordable health care to the rapidly growing population. These three organizations have offered a level of support we could not get as a county-owned health system that currently receives no local tax funding.”

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider the recommendation at its meeting May 18.
