On October 22, NHRMC was awarded a Certificate of Need by the Division of Health Service Regulation. The CON allows NHRMC to build four new operating rooms with an approved expenditure of $8,425,000.
NHRMC’s CON request asked for additional operating rooms due to the continued population growth in New Hanover and the surrounding counties. NHRMC currently runs 38 operating rooms (26 at the main campus, 8 at NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital, and 4 at Atlantic SurgiCenter), but the need still exceeds the demand.
The new operating rooms will be built on the NHRMC main campus.
“This CON approval will add OR capacity, which will enable NHRMC to improve the timeliness and quality of care provided as well as improving the patient and family experience,” said Kristy Hubard, NHRMC Chief Strategy Officer. “The project will also result in improvements to operational efficiencies and cost savings.”
