New Hanover Regional Medical Center  is pleased to announce that Michelle Adamolekun has accepted the position of Chief Human Resources Officer for the health care system. Adamolekun will work in coordination with current Chief Human Resources Officer Keith Strawn, who has announced his retirement in March 2020.

In her new position, Adamolekun will oversee a department of 110 employees and will manage Human Resources for more than 7,400 employees.

Michelle comes to NHRMC with more than 20 years extensive experience in human resources across the financial, educational, high tech and healthcare industries.  Most recently she was the Regional Chief HR Officer and Vice President for Ascension Health, where she was the HR Market Lead for the Florida/Alabama region with oversight for more than 23,000 employees.   At Ascension, she served as a strategic partner, out-of-the-box innovator and catalyst for the organization, developing powerful strategies and an organizational culture that optimized customer satisfaction, employee engagement, employee retention and bottom line results.

Adamolekun is excited to join the NHRMC team.

“It’s clear that the organization is thriving,” she said. “And the organization’s mission speaks to me spiritually. This system is ingrained in the community, and its mission and values reflect my own beliefs.”

When Adamolekun met with Strawn and CEO John Gizdic, she knew she belonged here.

“Michelle has a wealth of experience,” Gizdic said. “She has proved that she will use available resources to help influence the culture of an organization. I’m glad that she will have time to work with Keith and ensure a seamless transition.”

Adamolekun reflects NHRMC’s culture of supporting others with her Reggae Girlz Foundation, a nonprofit she founded that supports youth soccer programs for girls in underserved communities in Jamaica.

Adamolekun has served on many community and nonprofit boards throughout her career and is eager to get involved with the Wilmington community.

“The HR team is a partner with our employees and the whole community,” Adamolekun said. “I look forward to assessing the needs of the community and how NHRMC can ensure that we are meeting those needs.”

She and her husband are parents of two children, both elite soccer players. Her daughter, Sade (18) recently participated as a member of the historic Jamaica Senior Women’s National Soccer team in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.  Her son, Nathaniel (21), is currently a professional soccer player in Europe.

Among her list of accolades, Adamolekun has a BA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MS in Human Resources Management from Texas State University, along with several certifications in the field of human resources.

She was born in Jamaica and relocated to New York at 11 years old.  She later accepted a full track and field scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned two national championship titles and competed internationally.

Adamolekun will officially join NHRMC on Monday, November 4, 2019.
