Dana Eder, Wound Care Coordinator at NHRMC Home Care, has been selected as one of North Carolina’s Great 100 Nurses. She was honored with the esteemed award at the organization’s annual gala on Oct. 5.

Dana was recognized for advancing the profession of nursing, supporting her fellow nurses, demonstrating integrity, demonstrating caring, and radiating enthusiasm.

Here are some excerpts from her nomination:

  • As Wound Care Program Coordinator, this nominee was responsible for educating all new nurse employees on skin, wound, and ostomy care and management. In addition, she teaches ongoing skin and wound care to certified nursing assistants, physical, occupational, and speech therapists.
  • She produced five videos on skin, would, and ostomy care, developed the WOC Star Champions program and started the Skin Care Team. She also helped new nurses by participating in the Nurse Mentorship Program for new graduate nurses.
  • When she noticed there was a lack of standard work with patient bathing, she initiated a Lean project on Patient Hygiene to help with patient privacy, consistent bathing techniques, daily bathing, and use of proper products. This was a win-win situation as it provided satisfaction to employees and improved patient care.
  • Understanding the loneliness and self-consciousness that ostomy patients endure, Dana started a local Ostomy Support Group that meets monthly. She also trains ostomy volunteers twice a year and collects and donates ostomy supplies to countries that don’t have many ostomy resources.
  • Dana exudes an infectious enthusiasm for her work and our patients, and it motivates her teammates to support her initiatives. She started the Skin Care Team and helped develop the ultra-important Limb Preservation Program that encompasses the hospital and our home care team.

Congratulations to Dana Eder, worthy of her status as a Great 100 Nurse!
