Schwartz Center Rounds Retooled to Encourage Greater Involvement

Schwartz Rounds A3 Leaders CL

In 2015, NHRMC began presenting Schwartz Center Rounds as a means of strengthening the human connection at the heart of healthcare. Leaders used these rounds to reinforce the vital element of compassion, which makes the unbearable bearable through acts of kindness and the human touch.

The sessions were case-based discussions that fostered conversing with colleagues in a nonjudgmental way.

Unfortunately, attendance has steadily declined.

To help overcome this, the Spiritual Care Team, Nursing Leadership and Case Management Leadership completed an A3 to recalibrate NHRMC’s approach to these important sessions.

The team believes in the importance of Schwartz Center Rounds and how they can strengthen the understanding of compassion in healthcare.

The team reviewed some of the most popular topics from past Schwartz Center Rounds, identified potential barriers to attendance, and formed a new bi-monthly schedule that alternates between breakfast and lunch meetings.

Breakfast will be provided for Rounds beginning at 7:30 a.m. and lunch will be provided for Rounds beginning at 11:30 a.m.  All NHRMC employees are invited to attend.

Here are the upcoming topics:

  • September 19—11:30 a.m.—Compassion Fatigue
  • November 21—7:30 a.m.—People who have impacted me in my career
  • January 16—11:30 a.m.—Challenging patients
  • March 19—7:30 a.m.—Collaboration success stories
  • May 21—11:30 a.m.—Overcoming bullying and gossip
