Everywhere you looked at the 2019 Wilma Dash there were excited women wearing New Hanover Regional Medical Center t-shirts. Each year at the race there is a prize for the largest team and this year, with 168 team members, NHRMC was the winner!

This massive team was pulled together by Gray Boone, an Administrative Associate in Application Technology Services, January 2019’s NHRMC Employee of Excellence, and a Member of Excellence at the NHRMC Employee Fitness Center who worked tirelessly to get more women involved.

For several women from the NHRMC team, this was their first 5k. Our huge group helped to really show how we’re leading our community to outstanding health and finding new ways to make healthier happen in our own lives and in our community.

The Wilma Dash is Wilmington’s only all-female 5k which is followed by a Health Fest which NHRMC also took part in. Volunteers from NHRMC were there to help people sign up for our Healthy Dose newsletter, hand out sunscreen and ice packs to race participants, and answer questions about or get people signed up for MyChart.

Not only will the connections made with the women at this event help them to be healthier through following up with them about ways they can improve their health, our huge team’s registrations all went towards raising money for Going Beyond the Pinks, a breast health and education initiative dedicated to offering educational programs and resources before, during, and after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Our team also had a special mission. The entire team wore rainbows to honor the life of a young boy who lost his life to cancer.
