As employees of NHRMC we are provided different levels of access to perform our jobs. This includes access to physical office locations, access within a patient’s medical record, access to files or folders within departmental drives, Share Point access, etc. Each level of access comes with a new level of responsibility to be a good steward of that access and to ensure the information we access is directly related to performing our job duties.
Remember, just because you have the keys to open someone’s office, access to view patients’ medical records, or access to open files or folders belonging to other departments, does NOT authorize you to access the information. “Stay in your lane.”
If you deliberately access patient information and/or “secure” information from another department’s “N:” drive for your own personal gain or just out of curiosity, this can result in immediate termination. You may also subject yourself to additional fines or lawsuits under North Carolina State Law.
If you see something, say something. Be sure to talk with your manager and/or call the Compliance Hotline at 1.800.348.9847.
Being good stewards of your access is fundamental in “Leading Our Community to Outstanding Health.”
