When you quit using tobacco, your body begins to change. Within minutes, you start to recover from its harmful effects and start on the path to a healthier life. After only two weeks you can improve your circulation and lung function. After a year, you can reduce your risk of coronary disease by more than half, and drastically reduce your risk of a heart attack.
NHRMC is offering free smoking cessation classes, with the first session scheduled for 6-7 p.m. January 17. Attendees will learn about the health risks of smoking, benefits of quitting, and ways to help you quit smoking. The class will take place in the first floor class room at the Cape Fear Heart Associates and will be led by Tony Bollhorst, respiratory therapist and COPD navigator and Rachel Thomas, PharmD, outpatient pharmacist.
NHRMC is dedicated to leading our community to outstanding health. That message is mirrored through the education and resources the class offers. They are not exclusive to NHRMC patients and are FREE for anyone to attend. Additional classes will be offered April 18, July 18 and November 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. An additional Spanish speaking class is also in the planning stage.
Nicotine replacement products can be purchased at a reduced cost for participants with a coupon redeemable at NHRMC Outpatient Pharmacy.
