NHRMC employees who work at ED North, Atlantic SurgiCenter and New Hanover Medical Group – Ogden were excited to learn about the new fitness option that opened to them on Monday. The NHRMC Human Resources Department and the employee fitness center team held a grand opening for the fitness room at ED North.

The fitness room was abuzz with chatter on Monday as EFC staff members handed out swag, answered questions and collected surveys from the interested participants.

Sheri Albertson, EFC Program Coordinator, said the EFC hopes to schedule a couple classes per week at the new location and that group fitness programs will also be available there. They are awaiting the results of Monday’s survey to find out how to best serve employees at the new location.

Nancy Leli, Manager of Operations – H&D, said she’s excited for her team.

“This is a great idea,” she said. “Most of our staff who work up here live up this way. Now, they can clock out and go work out right after without having to drive anywhere.”

The fitness room includes an arc trainer, treadmill, rower, stationary bike, and a cable functional fitness station that facilitates dozens of exercises. Yoga mats and blocks are available, along with other exercise accessories.

Pamela Grady, an endoscopy technician at Atlantic SurgiCenter brought her workout clothes on Monday and planned to exercise after work.

Terri DeWees, now Director of Trauma Services, conceived the idea of an onsite fitness room when she was manager of ED North.

“With the new strategic plan, we Leading Our Community to Outstanding Health, and we are working to take care of our employees. It’s important to take care of them mentally and physically,” Terri said.
