Reverend Elizabeth Stroop will retire after 10 years with NHRMC. Elizabeth will retire on Friday, after the graduation of this year's class of resident chaplains. Elizabeth joined the Spiritual Care Department as Chaplain/CPE Certified Educator at NHRMC in 2008 after serving as CPE Certified Educator/Associate Director of the Department of Pastoral Care at UNC Chapel Hill for 16 years.
She has served as primary educator for many of our Chaplain Residents at NHRMC as part of our Clinical Pastoral Education program (this educational program prepares students to become Board Certified Chaplains). Elizabeth earned her B.S. at Cornell University and her Master of Divinity from Colgate Rochester/Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y. She was ordained to the ministry in 1978, and is endorsed by the Alliance of Baptists for her work in institutional ministry.
She has served for nine years as a non-scientific member of the Institutional Review Board for New Hanover. She has held a variety of positions, both regionally and nationally, for ACPE. She served on the National Board of the Association, and served as Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Region. She was also President of the North Carolina Chaplains’ Association.
Before becoming an Educator, she served as an Associate Pastor in a Baptist church in New York State, an interim chaplain in a state facility serving people with developmental disabilities, and the chaplain of a Baptist long-term care facility in New York. In line with her lifelong love of all things domestic, she looks forward to entertaining friends, reading, baking, scrapbooking, and traveling with her family in retirement.
We wish her the very best.
