NHRMC Receives Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Award

May 20, 2018
GWTG NHRMC has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Plus Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Elite Plus is the highest award possible. To receive the Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Plus Award, NHRMC had to meet the following criteria: time to thrombolytic therapy within 60 minutes in greater than or equal to 75% of patients and time to thrombolytic therapy within 45 minutes in greater than or equal to 50% of patients.

NHRMC earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing their health, get a follow-up visit scheduled, as well as other care transition interventions.

“With a stroke, time lost is brain lost, and this award demonstrates our commitment to ensuring patients receive care based on nationally-respected clinical guidelines,” said James McKinney, MD, NHRMC Stroke Programs Medical Director.  “NHRMC is dedicated to improving the quality of stroke care and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke helps us achieve that goal.”

Led by a vascular neurologist, our stroke team includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals working together to provide comprehensive, coordinated care. Their goal is to improve outcomes by providing treatments based on national standards of care. Each member has worked diligently to meet the high standards set by the American Stroke Association to help NHRMC achieve this exceptional award.
