The NHRMC Rehabilitation Hospital staff is embarking on a virtual trip from Wilmington to PyeongChang, South Korea, site of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Rehab services staff, patients, family members and friends have set a goal of covering 7,204 miles by walking, running, propelling, rowing or cycling.

Teams at all NHRMC rehab facilities (including Oleander Rehab and Independence Rehab) will log their miles from January 1 to February 9, the day of the opening ceremonies for the 2018 NHRMC Rehab Games. After one week of wintry weather, the team has covered more than 1,700 miles.

During the Rehab Games, patients will have an opportunity to participate in Winter Olympics sports, modified for indoor conditions and adaptable for patients whose mobility or motor skills are limited.

NHRMC holds the Rehab Games every two years to coincide with the Olympics. In Summer Games past, professional soccer players from the Wilmington Hammerheads have helped facilitate some events. This year, the Coastal Carolina Curling Club and the UNCW Club ice hockey team will assist with specific events.
