Memorial Day Safety Tips

Memorial Day weekend is often filled with family, friends and for some, a trip to a fun, new destination. But this year’s travel restrictions may have some reconsidering weekend travel plans or wondering how to safely enjoy the holiday while following restrictions in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The best way to help reduce the risk of infection is to avoid unnecessary travel. But if you do have a planned trip, following safety precautions can help protect you, your family and the community.

Whether you are staying home or traveling, follow precautions for limiting exposure:

  • Try to make time to go out for essential items during times when crowds may be smaller
  • Make a list of all items you need so that you can limit the number of stores you visit
  • Shop online if possible
  • If you go out, wear a mask or cloth face covering in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies)
  • Keep gatherings small and have them outdoors when possible
  • Maintain 6 feet of distance from others, both inside and outside
  • Ask any guests who aren’t feeling well, to please stay home
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or if soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • If you or someone in your family is sick, avoid travel and monitor your symptoms

Following some simple guidelines this Memorial Day weekend can help keep you and your family safe and help slow the spread of COVID-19.
