A beautiful living wall is one of a pair of new features at Pender Memorial Hospital. The vertical gardens have a variety of benefits for patients, staff, and visitors to the hospital.
The greenery brings the outdoors in for the skilled nursing facility patients who are unable to go outside and enjoy the hospital’s other garden areas.
The living walls improve air quality and the beauty of nature boosts morale for patients, visitors, and staff.
One living wall is at the end of the main hallway on the second floor in an area that allows for seating and wheelchair access in front of a large window. The other improves the aesthetics in the area where the skilled nursing residents gather and eat meals.
The living walls were made possible by a grant from the Pender County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association and installed by Foliage Design Systems of the Carolinas.
