Job Search

As a housekeeper at New Hanover Regional Medical Center you are part of the care team that includes physicians, nurses and clinical staff. As part of the housekeeping team, you will have the opportunity for patient interaction, where friendly conversation and a warm smile can improve the care experience for patients and their families.

Benefits

As the largest employer in the region, NHRMC offers our housekeeping staff career stability and a competitive benefits package.

Growth

At NHRMC, we value your potential and support you in your goals, whether you want to remain a housekeeper or advance into a coordinator role within our department. Some members of our team find they are interested in clinical care as nurse's aides and we encourage this interest.

Support

Our housekeepers are supervised by a group of coordinators. Coordinators do weekly huddles with their team of roughly 18 people to generate feedback on how our work can be improved. Our coordinators then meet with managers and our director to review this feedback.

In addition, our director and managers round on over 2 million square feet of our facility seeking input on how to make the cleaning process easier and more efficient. Patients are asked to provide a score for each facility's cleanliness which impacts how the hospital is reimbursed for patient stays.

NHRMC is supportive of requests for better equipment and has invested heavily to convert non-carpeted areas into carpet and to purchase microfiber mops and battery powered vacuums to provide a better patient experience.

Peer Interviews

To ensure that newly hired housekeepers will work well with our team, we employ a peer interviewing process to determine candidates who are the best fit for our department. Because our current housekeeping staff know what it takes to succeed at NHRMC, peer teams of between six and seven staff handle the interview process and make hiring recommendations.

Locations/Shifts

Our day shift works in patient areas while our second shift works in outpatient areas and in the operating rooms.

We offer housekeeping opportunities at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, the NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital, and Pender Memorial Hospital.

Orientation and Training

Following hospital orientation, housekeepers go through two weeks of training. Training consists of access to computer-based resources and two weeks of on-the-job-training with one of our top performing housekeepers.

If you have a positive attitude and good communication skills and want to work in a team-oriented environment with opportunities for growth, we invite you to join the NHRMC housekeeping team.
