Brad Elliott, PharmD, BCPS, BCOP

Brad Elliott is currently a Pharmacist II focused on the hematology/oncology unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He completed his Doctor of Pharmacy at Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in 2004. He became a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2007, and is currently a member of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) and American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). Additionally, Brad precepts fourth year pharmacy students during their last year of school for the Advanced Hospital Rotation with an emphasis in oncology.

Dr. Elliott is the preceptor for the Oncology elective.

Elizabeth Farrington, PharmD, FCCP, FCCM, FPPAG, BCPS

Elizabeth Farrington is a Pharmacist III specializing in Pediatrics at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina (UNC) and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky (UKy). She completed a 2 year Clinical Pharmacy residency (14 months in pediatrics) at the A.B. Chandler Medical Center at the University of Kentucky and a Pediatric Research Fellowship under the direction of Rich Leff, Pharm.D. at the University of Iowa. She is a member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG)[ former board member], The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) [former member of the Board of Regents], the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM)[former member of the clinical pharmacology section board], the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP) and the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). Dr. Farrington has been elected fellow of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group, The American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. Dr. Farrington is the Chair of the Pediatric Specialty Council of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties.

Justin Hare, PharmD, FASHP

Originally from Southern New Jersey, Justin moved to Morgantown, West Virginia in 1997. He received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and went on to complete a PGY-1 Residency at West Virginia University Hospitals. He spent the next 2+ years at the hospital as the Nephrology Clinical Pharmacist, having served as a primary preceptor for both WVU students and residents during that time span. He then accepted the position of Assistant Director of Pharmacy in 2006, and has served as Interim Director of Pharmacy twice, from 2008-2009 and again in 2017. As an Assistant Director, his responsibilities included duties of Residency Program Coordinator, PGY-1 Program Director, and Intern Program Coordinator. Additionally, he facilitated IPPE and APPE rotations for both Institutional Practice and Practice Management. In 2014 he was inducted into the WVU School of Pharmacy Centennial Hall of Fame.

As a member of WVSHP, Justin served as an Alternate for WV in the ASHP House of Delegates for two years (2012 & 2013), and as one of the two elected delegates from 2014-2017. He was an elected Board Member At-Large from 2013 to 2014. In 2016 WVSHP presented him with the "Excellence in Health Systems Pharmacy Award". Justin was a Past Chair for the Eastern States Residency Conference (ESRC) and was a member of the ESRC Advisory Board from 2013-2017.

As an active member of ASHP, Justin was a member of the ASHP Accreditation Advisory Committee, the ASHP Pharm Academic Advisory Committee, and serves as a PGY-1 Accreditation Surveyor. In 2017, Justin was awarded with Fellowship Status by ASHP.

In 2017, Justin relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina and accepted the position of Inpatient Pharmacy Manager at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mackie King, PharmD, BCPS, CPP

Mackie King is a Pharmacist II working in the Internal Medicine and Care Team (HIV) clinics at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He completed pharmacy school at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy – MUSC campus. Afterwards, he completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency and a PGY2 residency in Ambulatory Care/Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital. He became board certified in pharmacotherapy in October 2012. He is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), the ACCP Ambulatory Care PRN and the Pain and Palliative Care PRN.

Dr. King is an ambulatory care preceptor for PGY1, PGYC, and PGY2 rotations in the Internal Medicine Clinic and/or Care Team Clinic.

Steven Nakajima, PharmD, BCCCP

Dr. Nakajima is a Pharmacist II in the Emergency Department at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from The University of Georgia in 2012. Steven completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY2 Critical Care Residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

Dr. Nakajima is a preceptor of the Emergency Medicine rotation.

Zack Parker is a Pharmacist II on the cardiology/telemetry unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Zack received his Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He then completed his PGY1 pharmacy practice residency here at NHRMC. He became board certified in pharmacotherapy in October 2013.

Dr. Parker is a preceptor for the Integrated Practice rotation.

Lisa Sweeney is a Pharmacist II at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, working in the Critical Care Units, Progressive Care Unit, and Emergency Department. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Lisa completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is board certified in pharmacotherapy. She is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and is also on the Nutrition Support Team and Direct Patient Care Practice Council at New Hanover.

Dr. Sweeney precepts PharmD students on the Progressive Care Unit and residents during their Integrated Practice rotation.

Joshua D. Steelman, BS, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Joshua Steelman is a Critical Care / Nutrition Support Pharmacist at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He earned his Bachelor of Science from UNC-Pembroke in 2001 and his Doctor of Pharmacy from Wingate University in 2008. Dr. Steelman completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC in 2009. In 2010, he completed a PGY2 Critical Care Residency at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital in Spokane, Washington. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Steelman serves on the Antimicrobial Subcommittee and the Critical Care Pharmacy Practice Council. His research interests include sedation/analgesia, nutrition support, and infectious diseases. Additionally, he teaches the Code Blue response competency course. He has also worked to develop a Code Blue Simulation Lab for pharmacy residents and staff development.

Dr. Steelman is a preceptor of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Nutrition / Metabolic Management rotations for pharmacy residents and students. He serves as a preceptor for Campbell University and Wingate University Schools of Pharmacy.

Rachel Thomas, PharmD, BCACP

Rachel Thomas is a Community Pharmacist II who practices in a variety of community settings including: Transitions of care, MTM, and the Employee Diabetes Management Program. Rachel earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from John Carroll University and PharmD from The Ohio State University. She then completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in Ambulatory/Community Care through The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Rachel’s interests include diabetes, smoking cessation, MTM, and transitions of care. She is a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Dr. Thomas is preceptor for the following PGYC longitudinal rotations: employee disease management, MTM, and smoking cessation.

Karen earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan and completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency at Beaumont Hospitals in Royal Oak, Michigan. She is a member of American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

Virginia White, PharmD, MBA

Virginia White is a Pharmacist II on the Adult Inpatient Surgery Unit and a Department of Pharmacy Epic Willow Educator at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Virginia earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration from Campbell University and completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, now Vidant Medical Center, in Greenville, North Carolina. She is a member of the Campbell School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Alumni Board of Directors.
