  • Length of program: 3 Years
  • Number of PGY-1 positions: 7 Positions

  • Length of program: 1 Year
  • Number of PGY-1 positions: 2 positions

Important Points

  • All candidates must apply through ERAS
  • New Hanover Regional Medical Center does not accept or sponsor any visas
  • The first attempt average minimum USMLE score is 210 and COMLEX score is 450
  • Graduation from medical school should not exceed 5 years
  • IMG’s who are permanent residents, U.S. citizens or EAD are welcome to apply
  • We participate in the NRMP
  • The interview season begins November 1 and ends January 31
  • Applications are accepted through December 31
  • ECFMG certificates, when appropriate, must be current prior to licensure
  • Prior U.S. clinical experience in Internal Medicine is strongly preferred
  • Prior to ranking Steps 1, 2CK and 2CS must be complete

Typical Interview Itinerary:

  • Morning Report: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
  • Interviews with faculty members and Chair: 9:00 am - 10:30 am
  • Tour Hospital / Clinic: 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
  • Lunch with the residents: 12:00 Noon - 1:00 pm

The Residency Program in Internal Medicine at New Hanover Regional Medical Center is overseen by the faculty from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
