Acute care settings provide short-term medical care for immediate and crucial medical needs, with the goal of discharging patients once treatment can be safely provided in a lower level of care setting. Acute care is for patients who are suffering from serious injuries, disease, illness, or medical conditions, or who may be recovering from major surgery.
