Starting Monday, Sept. 24, the following fire departments will have water and meals:

Diamond Food Catering, partnering with World Central Kitchen: Individuals and families that need a meal plus some food to go home with can go to the following locations:

  • Mercy Chefs at Life Point Church on S. College (this may wrap up tomorrow or Thursday)

Cajun Navy: The Cajun Navy has set up a 24-hour supply store at Peace Baptist Church on Military Cutoff Road.

Champions for Compassion: Rebecca Trammel, 910.685.0209, rebecca@championsforcompassion.com. They have a Bridge Builders Action Team (home base is North Side Baptist Church) to provide food, supplies and diapers to numerous locations around town (Foxes Boxes, DREAMs, St. Luke’s AME, etc.).

Pender

Red Cross will serve 150 meals every evening next week from 5 to 6 p.m. at Station 14 at 19470 US Highway 17 in Hampstead.

Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP)

D-SNAP is for households that don’t already receive food stamp benefits, and will provide one-time assistance for people who lost food, or the ability to purchase food because of Hurricane Florence. D-SNAP uses different standards than normal food stamp benefits, so households that don’t normally qualify for food stamps may qualify for D-SNAP if disaster-related expenses have been incurred.  Those already on food stamps may receive supplemental or replacement assistance automatically and do not need to re-apply.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Live in one of following counties: Bladen, Beaufort, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Wayne, and Wilson.
  • Have suffered losses/damages related to Hurricane Florence, such as damage to property, loss of income or food loss.
  • Have proof of identity and proof of residency (if available).
  • Have income and resources below certain levels.
  • Not currently receiving help buying food through the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) program

Brunswick County

Residents of Brunswick County can apply for D-SNAP beginning Friday, September 28. Residents applying for D-SNAP should come to Odell Williamson Auditorium on the Brunswick County College (BCC) Campus. There is no online application for D-SNAP, so the public must apply in person during the following hours of operation:

  • Monday, October 1: 8:30 a.m. -5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 2: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 3: 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 4: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Friday, October 5: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Columbus County

New Hanover County applications for D-SNAP will be accepted Friday, September 28 through Saturday, October 6, except Sundays. This schedule is determined by the state. Please note: D-SNAP will not be administered at the county’s Social Services building; applications will only be available at the Independence Mall location.  There is no online application for D-SNAP, so the public must apply in person during the following hours of operation:

Beginning September 28,2018, Pender County Residents can begin applying for D-SNAP.

D-SNAP Transportation (Pender)

Shuttle buses to transport Pender County Residents to Burgaw to apply for D-SNAP and for other needs. Bus departs from Hampstead Annex Department Ag. Building and schedule  for Oct. 1-6 is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. 10 a.m.
  • 11 a.m. 12 p.m.

Financial Assistance

Housing

The NC REALTORS® Housing Foundation has launched a grant application program for those impacted by the storm. Eligible applicants can qualify for a grant covering one month’s rent or mortgage payment.

Grants are available for up to $1,500 and do not need to be repaid. Access the application here.

If your home was impacted, please apply for assistance and share this information with others who are affected.

The NC REALTORS® Housing Foundation has also committed $50,000. All proceeds from this fund will benefit disaster victims.


Medical Care and Equipment

New Hanover County

MedNorth: Has a mobile medical unit provided by United Health Care. They have 3 exam rooms, offering FREE services by 2 Nurse Practitioners and 1 behavioral social worker.

Disability Resource Center: offers long-term equipment needs to people with significant disabilities i.e. wheelchairs, hearing aids, batteries, etc. Their services cover five counties. Their office is damaged so go to their website at www.drc-cil.org then select “click here for assistance.”

Duplin County
