The 2022 dental plan promotes good oral hygiene through regular dentist visits for preventive check-ups paid at 100% of covered expenses with no deductible. Additionally, biannual preventive care does not apply to your annual maximum when services are provided by a network provider. The following are more significant enhancements:
Preventive services (Type A) include oral exams, cleanings, X‐rays, space maintainers, and sealants. These services help prevent or limit more serious and costly problems in the future. This is why the 2022 dental benefit plan coinsurance level is 100 percent and there is no deductible for these services.
Basic restorative services (Type B) include fillings, extractions, endodontics (root canal therapy), periodontics (treatment of gums), and oral surgery. Under the 2022 dental benefit plan, these services are subject to the 80 percent coinsurance level.
Major restorative services (Type C) encompass inlays, on-lays, crowns, bridges, and dentures. These services are subject to the deductible and 50 percent coinsurance in the 2022 dental benefit plan.
Orthodontics (Type D) include team member, spouse, and child coverage for straightening of teeth. Orthodontia is covered at a 50 percent coinsurance level and is subject to a $100 lifetime deductible. A lifetime orthodontia maximum of $1,500 per covered patient also applies. Treatment for a dependent child must begin prior to age 18. Adult orthodontia was not covered under NHRMC’s previous plan and will now be available with enrollment in the Novant Health Cigna dental plan as of January 1, 2022.

If you and/or a covered member of your family has Ameritas dental rewards banked in 2021, you may want to consider how to use them by December 31, 2021 for preventive, basic, or major dental services; they will not carry over into 2022.
