Healthy Lifestyle Plan Classes
We offer classes throughout the year to help you understand your condition and develop the tools you need to manage it. These programs are required as part of participation in the program. Class descriptions and available dates and times are listed below. Choose your class and location, select a date and click register. If the class of your choice does not appear in the drop-down menu, the class has been filled. Please call the Healthy Lifestyles Plan Hotline at 910.667.7777 if you have questions or concerns.
Introduction to Hypertension Class
The key to improving heart health is making practical and sustainable lifestyle changes at a pace that’s realistic for you. This class will teach employees and dependents who have hypertension how their medication, nutrition and exercise habits can help lower their blood pressure and improve their overall health. This class is taught by your Wellness Pharmacist, Wellness Dietitian and Program Director/Personal Trainer from the Jack Barto Center for Employee Fitness.

Introduction to Diabetes
Designed as a foundation for all Healthy Lifestyles Plan participants with diabetes or pre-diabetes, this class provides attendees with an introduction to essential topics related to diabetes management and care. Topics will include understanding diabetes (types and development), medications and treatments, treating high and low blood sugar, nutrition, carb counting, physical activity, and reducing risk of future complications
If you have completed this class in the past with credit, there is no need to take it again.
Introduction to Diabetes Online Learning Program
Heart Health and Healthy Lifestyles Class
If you completed the Heart Health and Healthy Lifestyles Class or took it online in a previous year, you do not need to repeat it in 2017. Refer to your scorecard for individual requirements.
- Heart Health: This class details how heart disease is related to diabetes. Because the two conditions are so closely linked, it is important to understand what tools you can use to prevent future complications. This class will examine pre-diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, as well as treatment goals and their relationship to diabetes.
- Healthy Lifestyles: This class offers guidance on how to live a healthy, fulfilling life with chronic disease. Topics will include stress and depression management, exercise guidelines and diet.
Online Diabetes Combo Class
All Healthy Lifestyles Plan participants are required to attend one Movement Class before the end of the year. Classes will be held at the Jack Barto Center for Employee Fitness.
Note: If you participated in a challenge at the fitness center in 2016 or 2017 or go to the gym eight times per month, you are exempt.
