Remote Access

The new health care legislation includes a provision that affects the Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA). Over-the-counter (OTC) medicine will only be considered a qualified medical expense if the individual has a prescription for the medication. The following categories of items will require a doctor's prescription:

  • Feminine anti-fungal/anti-itch
  • Allergy & sinus
  • Hemorrhoid remedies
  • Anti-diarrhea products
  • Laxatives
  • Anti-gas products
  • Motion sickness
  • Anti-itch & insect bite
  • Pain relief
  • Baby rash ointments/creams
  • Respiratory treatments
  • Cold sore remedies
  • Sleep aids & sedatives
  • Cough, cold & flu products
  • Stomach ailment remedies
  • Digestive aids
