The Zimmer Cancer Center is southeastern North Carolina's only community cancer center dedicated solely to the diagnosis, treatment and support of people with cancer.
At the Zimmer Cancer Center we recognize that caring for a person with cancer involves much more than treating the cancer itself. We provide a unique care environment that attends to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families while leading-edge clinical care is delivered by oncology specialists with decades of experience.
NHRMC's Zimmer Cancer Center is a multidisciplinary comprehensive cancer program accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. We offer medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, GYN oncology, chemotherapy and infusion services. These are complimented by our active Cancer Research Program.
During our reaccreditation in 2011 by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, we earned the highest possible score and exceeded expectations in seven quality measures. In 2012 the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer presented the Zimmer Cancer Center with their highest honor, the Outstanding Achievement Award.
The quality of care we provide would not be possible without the contribution of departments across the medical center in the continuum of cancer treatment.
Why is Our Quality So Good?
Our Clinical Oncology Research Program allows us to offer therapies not available at most community cancer centers. Physicians at the Zimmer Cancer Center are a vital link in the network of researchers expanding the frontiers of cancer science. Their participation in dozens of national clinical trials connects patients in this region to the most recent advances in cancer treatment and prevention strategies.
Our oncology specialists' clinical expertise is just part of what makes cancer treatment at the Zimmer Cancer Center exceptional. We believe what sets our cancer care apart is our patient-centered environment, where every staff member, from our nurses to our radiation therapists to our receptionists, is focused on supporting and nurturing our patients and their families during a very challenging time in their lives.
We believe in caring for the person as much as the diagnosis. We don't just focus on the patient's medical needs; we also take into account other areas of their life that might need nurturing and care.
We provide personalized, family-centered and compassionate care with centralized support services close at hand. If we can identify and reduce a patient's stress we can improve their odds of beating cancer.
Members of our team make a difference in people's lives at a very critical time. They take great satisfaction in knowing they have positively impacted the lives of patients who are truly dependent on their care.
We are a collaborative, team-oriented department of nearly 50 staff members. Staff members help guide the department's direction through participation in councils where they make recommendations and decisions. Staff members derive a lot of satisfaction from their direct impact on practice and protocol.
Our Unit Based Practice Council is a nursing-led council that makes decisions about how we practice. The council has a significant impact in the day-to-day operations of the center.
Our department has career opportunities for:
- Radiation Therapists
- Medical Assistants
- Patient Care Techs
