How to Prevent Running Injuries

When you're training for a marathon, especially if you're a beginner, it's important to take steps to prevent a running injury. An injury can seriously set you back and make it even harder to achieve your fitness goals. NHRMC Physical Therapist, Morgan Heffernan, has some tips to help you avoid injury. 

  • Be realistic about your training program
  • Stick with your training program
  • Practice on different terrains 
  • Start with smaller races first if you're a beginner 

The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Wrightsville Beach Marathon is coming up on March 8-9. The course has a reputation with runners as being a great run for all skill levels because the course is reasonably flat. Running the half marathon can be a great option for beginners.
