The Sunshine Award was created by Novant Health to honor non-nursing staff who provide exceptional compassionate care. The award complements the Daisy Award, which is presented to a nursing team member who has gone above and beyond for a patient.
This month’s award was presented to Monica Hill, a patient liaison with volunteer services. Here's the story of how Monica left a lasting impression on one family:
A visitor’s mother had been involved in a “horrific car accident.” The father nervously waited in the waiting room as the mother underwent emergency surgery.
Monica sat with the husband, talking with him long after her shift had ended. The visitors noticed and expressed their gratitude.
The next day and every day thereafter, Monica checked on the family.
“Monica made sure to find us and ask not only how my mother was but how we were as well,” the visitor wrote. “Her dedication is evident through her kindness.”
Monica’s ability to make a human connection will long be remembered by this family. We echo the sentiments they shared.
Congratulations to Monica Hill, this month’s Sunshine Award honoree!
