Clinical informatics team leadership updates.

December 27, 2021

Please read the following from Angela Yochem, executive vice president and chief transformation and digital officer.

With warm wishes, I’d like to share the upcoming retirement of A.J. Patefield, MD, senior vice president and chief medical information officer. I have a great deal of respect for the far-reaching impact of Dr. Patefield’s career-long commitment to improving the lives and well-being of our patients and communities. We will be hosting a celebration to honor the extensive contributions of Dr. Patefield in early 2022.

In concurrence with Dr. Patefield’s upcoming retirement, I’d also like to share several other organizational changes in the clinical informatics team which will now be led by Margaret Lozovatsky, MD, senior vice president and chief health informatics officer, reporting directly to me. Under Dr. Lozovatsky’s leadership, the health informatics team will provide strategic direction in the deployment and optimization of clinical technology with a focus on achieving the highest quality of care while promoting a remarkable experience for our patients and our clinicians.

Dr. Lozovatsky joined Novant Health in early 2021 with deep knowledge of healthcare informatics and electronic health records. She has improved the care of patients and the efficiency of caregivers for adults and children alike. Her vision for the clinical informatics team includes using technology to create a seamless patient experience and providing the most relevant information to the clinical team at the point of care, allowing them to make the best decisions for the patient.

Effective Jan. 1, Dr. Lozovatsky’s team will include:

  • Keith Griffin, MD, chief medical information officer (CMIO) for ambulatory services
  • Jason Connelly, MD, associate chief medical information officer (CMIO) for ambulatory services
  • Amy Messier, MD, chief medical information officer (CMIO) for New Hanover Regional Medical Center
  • Aram Alexanian, MD, physician executive for wellness informatics
  • Paula Kranz, special projects and strategic innovation
  • Jill McKinney, RN, senior director, clinical informatics
  • Jenise Collins, executive assistant II

Under Dr. Lozovatsky’s leadership, the health informatics team will provide strategic direction in the deployment and optimization of clinical technology with a focus on achieving the highest quality of care while promoting a remarkable experience for our patients and our clinicians. The team will also unify informatics teams across care settings to center the work around a holistic patient experience while using technology to promote smooth transitions with a seamless data flow. Please join me in extending well wishes to Dr. Patefield and Dr. Lozovatsky as they both begin these new chapters.
