The new permanent NHRMC Surgical Pavilion lobby will open Tuesday, November 19 with a new, spacious design punctuated by a wall of electronic screens. The new lobby will have about 6,500 square feet for our visitors, an increase of about 2,200 square foot over the old lobby.
As patients and visitors enter through the new entrance, they will park in the spaces closest to the doors and the lot between the Rehabilitation Hospital and Surgical Pavilion. This means that employees with black decals must park in the rear employee lot designated on the map here.
The new patient tower is scheduled to open in 2020. It was envisioned as an Orthopedic Hospital more than five years ago, but changing community and patient demographics have caused NHRMC to rethink the project. Recently, NHRMC shifted its direction to a heart and vascular hospital. Some decisions around the tower pivot plan are still being studied, and NHRMC is checking to ensure that changes in the project will not affect our Certificate of Need status with the state. There are many factors to consider, and NHRMC CEO John Gizdic addresses some of these in his latest Insights video.
The Surgical Kiosk coffee shop will operate in the designated space in the new lobby. Port City Java will open in that space in conjunction with the tower opening.
