Many NHRMC Employees have already begun taking advantage of SmartDollar, a free financial wellness course designed by famous author and renowned radio show host Dave Ramsey. The course, completely free to all NHRMC employees and their households, encourages participants to take charge of their finances, get out of debt, stop living paycheck to paycheck and plan for retirement.

In the first video lesson of the course, Dave reveals the 7 Baby Steps to building wealth. The first step is putting $1,000 in the bank to cover emergencies. The program will show you how to accomplish this first goal in just a month or two.

The objective, Dave says in the video, is to be able to pay for an unexpected car repair or medical treatment. If you can do that without having to borrow money, you’ve taken the first step to building wealth.

Once you’ve accomplished that, you can start paying off your debt, which is Baby Step 2.

Altogether, the seven baby steps are proven to help build wealth. Together, they may seem overwhelming, but if you take the first step and accomplish it, you will see that the others are attainable.

The course adapts to your current financial status. You can decide which baby step you need to start with. It may be No. 1 or it may be No. 5, which is college funding. To see all the baby steps, you’ll need to logon to the SmartDollar website.

“We want the best for our employees, and money problems can be a contributor to stress and depression,” said Karen Curran, NHRMC HR Director of Compensation, Benefits and Employee Wellness. “We are offering this program for free to all NHRMC employees because we are invested in your health and well-being.”
