New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Healing Arts Network led by Child Life Specialist Michele Erich offers integrative therapies such as music, massage, expressive and pet therapy to NHRMC patients. Ms. Erich along with other certified therapists utilize these approaches to improve the quality of life of their patients and promote healing.

The Healing Arts Network receives assistance through the NHRMC Foundation to meet a variety of patient needs. Programs such as music therapy have powerful effects on patient’s overall health. It can improve mood, change heart rate and lower blood pressure and stress. Child life therapy helps to reduce the stress experienced by children and their families, helping them cope with their hospital experience by using musical instruments, painting, and games as positive outlets. While interaction with our affectionate pet therapy dogs calm, comfort and lift the spirits of all our patients.
