Wanda Bass

Please join the Clinical Informatics team for a Retirement Tea for Wanda Bass, RNC, who will be celebrating 43 years of Service with NHRMC. The Retirement Tea will be held 2-4 p.m. Thursday, May 30 in the Women's and Children's Lighthouse Café.

Wanda began working at New Hanover Memorial Hospital as a Nursing Assistant at the age of 16. She began her nursing career August 1976 on Pediatrics. After 35 and a half years working with children and babies, she began working with the NHRMC Connect team as the Epic Software System was rolled out in 2012 and has been the voice at the end of the phone when help is needed with documentation for the last seven and a half years.

Her passion will ALWAYS be for children and Pediatric Palliative Care. "I have been fortunate to have two wonderful work families," she said. "Friendships that will last a lifetime."

Wanda helped organize, plan and implement Camp Special Time which was a free respite camp for children with special needs whose parents were stationed at Camp Lejuene. She received the Razor Walker Award from the Watson School of Business @ UNCW in 2006 due to her involvement with this initiative. She received the Silent Angel Award from the American Cancer Society for her involvement with Relay For Life Survivors and her role as a Pediatric nurse caring for kids with cancer. She was honored recently by her team for her nursing service during the UNCW Nursing Celebration.

Upon retirement she plans to...

  • Attend and fish in the Keli Wagner Lady Angler Tournament at Big Rock in June
  • Work on the planning committee for the Cape Fear Purple Heart Dinner, which is held in August
  • Travel, spend more time with her mom and finally do some the craft projects she has been putting off
  • Win the lottery!
