New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s VitaLink service is now providing expanded non-emergency ground transport service within Pender County.
Within Pender County, VitaLink will transfer patients between skilled nursing facilities, from nursing homes to physician appointments, and take patients discharging from Pender Memorial Hospital to nursing facilities. Additionally, VitaLink will transport patients from NHRMC Emergency Department-North to Pender Memorial Hospital and transport certain stable patients to be hospitalized at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
VitaLink units are specially equipped to care for patients with complicated medical histories who need ongoing medical care when being transported.
“We are glad to partner with Pender EMS and Fire, which offers emergency response capabilities within Pender County, to offer VitaLink’s services to meet Pender County’s non-emergency patient transport needs,” said John Popella, NHRMC’s Director of Critical Care Transport. “We look forward to serving Pender County residents in an expanded capacity.”
The VitaLink vehicles are based in Burgaw at Pender Memorial. Two VitaLink crews will be staffed during peak demand.
“Because Pender Memorial Hospital is affiliated with New Hanover Regional Medical Center, we already have a great working relationship with the VitaLink team,” said Ruth Glaser, PMH’s President. “We look forward to having VitaLink here to transport our patients when they need that service.”
