Letter from Dr. Brown: Share Your Thoughts in Patient Safety Survey

March 11, 2019
Brown Philip

 Dear Employee,

At New Hanover Regional Medical Center patient safety is integral to our mission of Leading Our Community to Outstanding Health. Our patients rely on us for excellent care and “to do no harm.”

Our standard practices ensure we are doing our best to keep our patients safe, and we encourage our employees and physicians to suggest what we can do better. This culture of patient safety is the foundation of what we do across the NHRMC system, and our success is driven by the trust of our community.

Organizationally, we work to ensure that you feel empowered to report safety concerns. Your actions will be appreciated, and you should never fear retribution for voicing a concern.

At our Daily Safety Check-In, we discuss potential concerns regarding patient safety. We also recognize our employees who find potential issues through our Good Catches program. In our culture of continuous improvement, we use Lean strategies every day to find and develop the processes and practices that will make our facilities even safer for our patients.

NHRMC is asking our staff and clinicians, including employed and contracted physicians, to take the Agency for HealthCare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Patient Safety Culture Survey. The survey runs March 9-23. Your valuable insights are the key to NHRMC’s improved patient safety over the years and in the years to come.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Remember, we all have a role to play in promoting safety. Please share your thoughts with us, and thank you for making a difference.

Sincerely,
