The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Cleft and Craniofacial Team has been recognized for meeting the high standards necessary for listing and referral from the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA) and the Cleft Palate Foundation.

The “craniofacial” designation relates to an additional level of care available for those patients with congenital conditions affecting the skull and face.

As an ACPA-approved team, NHRMC provides cleft and craniofacial care in a coordinated and consistent manner, following the proper sequence and taking place within the framework of the patient’s overall developmental, medical and psychological needs. The approval from the Commission on Approval Teams as a Cleft and Craniofacial Team extends through January 1, 2024.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the ACPA for the way in which we provide patient and family-focused care, and it is a credit to the hard work of all of our team members” said NHRMC Cleft and Craniofacial Director Michael Jaskolka, DDS, MD, FACS.

“The growth of the cleft and craniofacial program at NHRMC demonstrates the need for high level multidisciplinary services in our region. In the past, patients traveled hours to other centers. Now patients are traveling to Wilmington from other areas to receive their care. I am very proud of the work we have done providing extraordinary care for our patients and I look forward to our continued growth.”

The Cleft and Craniofacial Program at NHRMC is comprised of members of the Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Coastal Children’s Services, and other physicians, dentists and providers in the community. Dr. Jaskolka also sees patients at the NHRMC Medical Services in Jacksonville, NC.
