New Hanover Regional Medical Center is pleased to welcome Emeka Obiora, MD, FACS, to NHRMC Physician Specialists - General Surgery Specialists as part of the surgical oncology team.
Dr. Obiora received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where he received the Arthur Roberts, MD, Memorial Award for academic excellence.
Dr. Obiora completed his residency at Temple University St. Luke’s School of Medicine. During his last year of residency, he was selected as the General Surgery Chief Resident. He then completed his fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Most recently, Dr. Obiora has been working as a surgical oncologist at Sentara Surgery Specialists – Surgical Oncology Cancer Network in Newport News, Virginia. He has also been teaching as a rotation preceptor/clinical instructor at the Eastern Virginia Medical School – School of Health Professions Physician Assistant Program.

Dr. Obiora will be offering a full range of surgical oncology services to include complex GI, liver, pancreas, colorectal, esophageal, gastric, breast, thyroid, and skin cancers.
