NHRMC Physician Group - Cape Fear Cancer Specialists has received re-certification by the QOPI Certification Program LLC, a subsidiary of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Inc. (ASCO). The QOPI Certification Program builds on ASCO’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative, providing a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care.
“We’re proud of this re-certification, which speaks volumes about the outstanding care NHRMC and Cape Fear Cancer Specialists provide to our patients,” said Henry Hawthorne, Administrator of Oncology Services. “QOPI certification requires a tremendous team effort, and reflects the amazing dedication and commitment of our CFCS physicians and oncology staff members to raising standards for care and safety for cancer patients in our community.”
Cape Fear Cancer Specialists first achieved certification in 2012, and with this recertification is certified into 2021. QOPI certification is awarded to outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet the highest standards for quality and care delivery to cancer patients. It is an objective, voluntary, comprehensive, on-site assessment process that uses evidence-based standards to make certain a practice meets all requirements.
The QOPI Certification Program was launched in January 2010, and nearly 300 practices are currently certified. This certification for outpatient oncology practices is the first program of its kind for oncology in the United States, and in 2016 the program was expanded internationally.
