The SAIL Nurse Mentorship Program welcomed their 6th round of new graduate nurse Mentees at a Kick-Off event in March. The SAIL program pairs new graduate Mentees with experienced nurse Mentors in a supportive relationship meant to ease the transition into nursing practice for our new nurses.
As NHRMC continues to work toward its goal of hiring 200 new nurses, more mentors will be needed.
SAIL stands for Support, Advocate, Inform, & Lead and this is exactly what our nurse Mentors do at NHRMC. Mentors and Mentees meet monthly for an hour to discuss the Mentee's entry into practice. Throughout the course of their six-month relationship, the Mentor provides support to their Mentee in developing critical thinking skills and establish confidence in their ability to provide excellent patient care.
Patient Safety Outcomes Manager Sandy Andrews has mentored several nurses, including twin sisters Lesley and Emily Bey, and she loves connecting with the next generation of caregivers.
“I’m a resource for them,” Andrews said. “If they need to vent or to ask a question or just to talk to someone off the floor, I’m here for them.”
